Here in Austin, it’s the first full week of Summer vacaction. Austin ISD, let out last week, and now the roads are just a little bit less crowded, the swimming pools are a bit more busy, and the shaved ice trailers will all be opening. (more…)
This weekend is Memorial Day, the traditional ending to the school year. I always remember that Labor Day is when school starts because that’s when I had to go back to work (as a student), and Memorial Day is at the end, because I get to remember all the fun things I did. (more…)
Can you feel it? Summer is in the air. I don’t want to rush spring time though (it’s my favorite season). Here in Austin, it’s staying light out longer and the temperature during the days is creeping up. But it’s still cool enough at night that I can leave the bedroom window open.
Soon school will be out, and I’ll be writing these posts from our neighborhood pool, as I watch my kiddo swim with all his friends. I’ll dust off my old Bianchi, and he will soon have his training wheels off, and together we will ride the 2 short blocks where we will hang out with neighbors and friends in the shade while the little ones splash and dive together.

Central Texas Food bank serves almost 50,000 people. In toady’s talk with Felicia Pena, the community outreach director, I learned that a great number of these people are kids during the summer.
