Have you signed the Texas Information About Brokerage Services document?
This is an educational document produced by TREC, the Texas Real Estate Commission, that says what a broker/agent can and can’t do for you.
Basically, it says that there are two brokers/agents in every transaction. One represents the buyer, and the other represents the seller. It is the job of each to fully represent their party.
What that means is that a buyer’s agent works for the buyer.
A Seller’s agent works for the seller.
It’s that simple.
Of course there are always situations where things can get confusing, and this blog post isn’t the right place to get into all the details. If you have any questions you can always read the full text below or of course ask me or your agent for more details.
Also, understand that this is not a representation agreement. All it does is educate you as to the different types of agents.
If you want to download my copy of the form, it can be found in it’s entirety here: Information_About_Brokerage_Services.
