Chef Tyson Cole’s house

Tucked away among one of the tree lined streets in Old Westlake sits this beautiful home.  Updated for today’s living, and presented by Gottesman Real Estate, I want to share with you Celebrity Chef Tyson Cole’s house in Austin.

He was awarded the Food and Wine Best New Chef award.  He has received the James Beard Best Chef Southwest award as been an Iron Chef (which he should have won).  He has the best restaurant in Austin (in my ever so humble opinion), and 3 other’s in Texas as well (for a total of 4).  And he has a pretty cool house, which is now for sale.

1009 The High Road

This house has a great layout – Let me first skip over the kitchen I’ll get to that in a minute, because I’m pretty sure that’s what everyone wants to know about, and instead let me talk about the rest of the home.

Today’s family is busy.  The old style of houses which were very boxy, with low ceilings are out, and new floor plans that suit today’s modern family are in.  This 4,000+ square foot home has the features and design perfect living, today.  On one side of the house are two kids bedrooms and a shared bath.  On the other side of the house, also on the main level is a guest room with an attached bath.  Upstairs is the master suite, with a balcony.  It is from here you can see downtown, and feel like you are running the city.

Downstairs there is a formal living room, a formal dining room (imagine the meals served there), and a family room with tons of built in storage.  And tucked in the middle is the kitchen.

Kitchen before updatingThis is what the kitchen used to look like – before the chef had it remodeled to suit his personal taste.  Look at the old cabinets, the location of the fridge, the small island.  I can see what the previous owners had in mind, but it just isn’t suitable for a world class chef, is it?  Those of you that are good on internet searches can see what the house used to look like before the remodel.  Here’s a link to an old virtual tour, but I don’t know how long it will last.  Quite a transformation!

Now the kitchen is fully updated, as you can see from the photos below.  There is a ton of storage.  The layout is superb.  The materials are hard working, and easily clean-able. The only thing I don’t understand is the induction cooktop.  I would think he would put in a fire breathing Vulcan stove or something with a bit more horsepower.  Everything else is perfect though.

In back there is a beautiful screened in porch to enjoy the lazy Austin evenings, and just outside is a tranquil fountain. As one would expect there is a full herb garden next to the kitchen, and a kids play area on another part of the half-acre lot.

You can see more about the house on the home’s website, or contact me, and I’ll arrange a private showing for you while the house is still available for sale.
